Why your Instagram username matters
Your username — the @handle — is how people find, tag and mention you. It appears in your profile link, in search results and in every comment you leave. A good one is short, easy to say out loud and still clearly you; a bad one gets misspelled, forgotten or confused with someone else.
Finding a free, memorable handle has become hard because the obvious names are taken. The BioStylish.in username generator gives you many ideas in seconds, built from your name, a keyword and the style you choose. Every suggestion already follows Instagram’s format rules, so you only have to check whether it is free.
Username vs. name — what is the difference?
Instagram profiles have two separate fields. The username is unique, can only use letters, numbers, periods and underscores, and forms your profile URL (instagram.com/username). The name is shown in bold on your profile, can contain spaces, emojis and stylish fonts, and does not have to be unique. Use the name for decoration and keep the username clean and searchable.
How to find a good Instagram username
Enter a name or keyword
Use your first and last name, a nickname, your brand or a word that describes your content, such as travel, art or fitness.
Choose a style
Name-based, keyword, aesthetic, stylish, minimal, creator, gaming, business or a random mix. Turn numbers and separators on or off.
Generate and shortlist
Press Generate, then Regenerate for more. Tap the heart to keep favourites on this device.
Try it in Instagram
Copy a favourite, open Edit profile → Username and paste. If it is taken, Instagram tells you straight away — try the next one.
We cannot check availability — no reliable public method exists, and we never claim a name is free. Instagram tells you immediately when you try to save a username that is taken.

How to choose a username people remember
- Say it out loudIf you have to spell it letter by letter, it is too complicated. Avoid look-alike combinations such as
ll,1lor0o. - Use the same handle everywhereMatching usernames on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube make you easier to find and protect your brand.
- Avoid random numbersLong number strings look spammy and are hard to remember. A short, meaningful number is fine.
- Think long termAges, years or a current school or job can date your profile. Choose something you will still like next year.
- Don’t copy brands or peopleUsernames that imitate a brand or another person can be reported and removed for impersonation.
- Changing later is possibleYou can change your username in Edit profile, but your old handle may be taken by someone else and old links will stop working.
Frequently asked questions
Does the generator check if a username is available?
No. There is no reliable public way to check availability, so we never claim a username is free. Try your favourite in the Instagram app — it tells you immediately if the name is taken.
What are Instagram’s username rules?
A username can use letters, numbers, periods and underscores, must be at most 30 characters, cannot start or end with a period and cannot contain two periods in a row. Every suggestion follows these rules.
Can I use my name in another language?
Usernames only allow Latin letters. Accented letters are converted to plain ones; if your name uses another script, the tool builds ideas from keywords and word lists instead.
How do I change my Instagram username?
Open your profile, tap Edit profile, then Username. Enter the new name and save. If it is taken, Instagram will tell you and you can try another suggestion.
Is the username generator free?
Yes, it is free, with no sign-up. Press Regenerate as often as you like for new ideas.
Should I use numbers or underscores?
Use them only when needed. A single period or underscore can separate words (ananya.art); long number strings look random and are hard to remember.
What is the difference between my username and my name?
Your username (@handle) is unique, has strict format rules and forms your profile link. Your name is shown in bold, can include spaces, emojis and stylish fonts, and does not have to be unique.
How often can I change my username?
You can change it in Edit profile, but Instagram may limit how often. Once you give up a username, someone else can take it and old links and tags stop pointing to you.
What makes a username good for a business?
Use your brand name, add a clear word like shop, store or official only if needed, and keep the same handle on every platform so customers find you easily.
Is my name stored when I use the generator?
No. The name and keyword you enter are only used to build the suggestions and are not saved. Favourites you save stay in your own browser.
